Ljubljana

Ljubljana is Slovenia’s capital and main political, economic, and cultural center. Located in central Europe at the easternmost tip of the Alps and an hour’s drive from the Adriatic sea, the city has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and many remains of the Roman Emona can be seen while strolling in the streets. The modern Ljubljana bears a strong stamp of the architecture of Jože Plečnik. With the largest university nationwide and many institutes, Ljubljana is also an important research hub known, e.g., for its tradition in liquid-crystals science and soft condensed matter physics in general.

Conference site

The workshop will take place in the Auersperg Palace (Slo. "Turjaška palača") of the City Museum of Ljubljana. The palace has been recently carefully renovated to feature preserved peculiarities of the past and state-of-the-art equipment. It is an extraordinary venue for exhibitions and special occasions: receptions, concerts, fashion shows, and thematic presentations. It is located in the city center, surrounded by numerous small bars and restaurants, close to the Ljubljanica river. The lectures will take place in Projection hall on the ground floor of Auersperg Palace. The ground floor allows easy access to the café and atrium with white marble, magnificent stone columns and vault, and glazed galleries.

Accommodation

Invited participants will be accommodated at the Grand Hotel Union Eurostars (Miklošičeva cesta 1), a ten-minute walk from the conference venue, Auersperg Palace. The hotel is an iconic establishment that is part of the living history of Ljubljana and Slovenia. This beautiful, striking building is a prime example of the Vienna Secession style, part of the Art Nouveau movement, and has hosted many personalities from the world of politics, film, music, and even royalty over the years.
